CARLSBAD N.M. (KRQE)– A piece of history has been hidden away for decades and thanks to a construction project it’s been revealed.
It’s a wooded and glass shelf made out of bomb boxes from World War 2.
It was hidden away behind a wall for decades at what’s now The Cat’s Meow Thrift Store in Carlsbad, a group that raises money for spay and neutering and helps with the feral cat problem in the city.
The group was trying to tear down a wall to build more shelves when they discovered there was already a shelf there, a historic one.
The group is still researching the history of the shelf.
They suspect it was built in the 30’s or 40’s at the latest.
They’ve learned that bomb boxes used to transport military ammunition were a popular construction item after the war because the material was so sturdy.
Alrbright says since news broke of the find, their store has been filled with people coming to take a look.
