Grocery store chips in to help stock local school’s food pantry

A major grocery store chain is helping expand a school-based food pantry.

Roadrunner Food Bank has been donating food to Garfield Middle School’s food pantry.

Smith’s grocery store announced Wednesday it will join by donating food.

The pantry provides healthy and nutritious food options to low-income children and families in need.

“So the upgrade, what it really means is one less barrier to learning,” Community Schools Coordinator Pamela Campos said.

A family also donated a refrigerator and freezer to the school.
