ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the fair’s most popular events is underway, the Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge.
Ten restaurants were facing off in a competition that stirs up a lot of debate. Winners were announced Monday; Laguna Burger won first, Starr Brothers came in second, Pasion Latin Fusion came in third place.
Sparky’s won “People’s Choice.”
Earlier in the day the public got the chance to try each restaurant’s burger.
For the past two years in a row, the national chain Fuddruckers has won. It was a controversial choice, but officials stood behind it, saying it won after a blind taste test.
In addition to Fuddruckers, restaurants like Sparky’s in Hatch, Big Mike’s Grill of Belen and Starr Brother’s Brewing took part. The restaurants say this is a chance for bragging rights and to reach new customers.
