Grant money to help make parts of International District ADA compliant

A $3.5 million grant is being used to improve parts of the International District.

The money will go towards fixing sidewalks and roadways in Trumbull Village to make them ADA compliant, making it easier for the disabled to get around.

City Officials say there are about $200 million of ADA compliance issues throughout the city. The City says it will start in this neighborhood.

“It’s a big deal, and I think that’s why you see so many neighbors turn out for what sounds like a sidewalk project, but it’s so much more than that because it’s about a message that says ‘the city is listening,'” says City Councilor Pat Davis.

Construction has already started and is expected to be completed early next year.

An additional $1 million will be used for similar improvements citywide.

The grant comes from the federal government.
