ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The attorney for a grandmother who carried out a brutal form of punishment on a 3-year-old says the plea she signed was not what she agreed to.
Adelle Rigsby pleaded no contest back in March to putting the 3-year-old in an ice cold bath to punish her. The girl was found hypothermic and unconscious and spent six weeks in the hospital.
Thursday in court, Ribsby’s lawyer argued that the state promised her they would not ask for jail time. The state says that was never the agreement and plans to ask for the full six years.
Judge Benjamin Chavez had some questions of his own. Judge Chavez decided to reset Rigsby’s sentencing and ordered Rigsby to house arrest until she learns her punishment.
The girl’s aunt, Tiffany Desvigne, was also charged in the case. She has yet to be sentenced.
