Governors call on feds to open land for livestock grazing

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE)– Governors of four states including New Mexico are calling for the feds to open up more land for livestock grazing because of wildfires.

Recent fires have burned more than 2300 square miles in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas forcing farmers to move their animals.

Now they’re asking to lift federal restrictions protecting sensitive lands so livestock can safely graze.

It’s an option available under certain conditions to provide emergency relief.
