ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Libertarian Party will now be looking for a new Presidential candidate for 2020. Gary Johnson says he will not make a run for the nation’s highest office next time.

Johnson made that announcement after speaking to supporters at a party with running mate Bill Weld at Hotel Albuquerque just hours ago.

“There will be somebody else. It won’t be me. I hope to stay politically active but not as a candidate,” said Johnson.

As of Wednesday morning, the pair has walked away with 9 percent of the vote in New Mexico. Political experts say that’s enough for the Libertarian Party to be declared a major party in New Mexico, giving the next candidate an easier path to getting on the ballot.
