Game and Fish seeks input on proposed rule changes for off-road vehicles

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is seeking public comment on proposed changes to off-highway vehicle rules.

A change in state law is allowing municipalities to allow the vehicles such as ATVs on paved roads. Now, Game and Fish is working to come into compliance with the change.

The current rule required all operators and occupants of a ATVs on streets and highways to wear helmets. The proposed rule change would only require those 18 and younger to wear helmets.

There is also a proposed change to how the vehicles are registered. If it’s going to be used on a paved road you may have to get an actually license plate instead of the sticker that is being used now.

Game and Fish will take input until June 14.
