ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Beer lovers, listen up! For the next 10 days or so you all will have a lot to celebrate. Albuquerque Beer Week kicks off Thursday.
In recent years, Albuquerque has gained a lot of momentum in the brewer world, but that’s not to say it’s getting the attention it deserves. A recent survey revealed Albuquerque is one of the most underrated cities, but some believe events like this will help.
“I think if we can get information out there to people and tell them, one- we have awesome beer and awesome venues, people will come out and check it out for themselves,” said Albuquerque Beer Week co-founder Marne Gaston.
Gaston co-founded beer week five years ago, when many local breweries were just getting off the ground.
She says a lot’s changed since then. Gaston and her team have gone from knocking on doors, asking people to join in, to being swamped with calls from willing participants.
Gaston says beer week now draws beer travelers and that’s key for spreading the word. She says if they can draw people to Albuquerque for the beer, they’ll come back for everything else that makes Albuquerque unique – from the weather to the landscape.
Brewers participating in Albuquerque Beer Week agree.
“By promoting beer and beer week, I think that you’re supporting local and it’s good for Albuquerque and New Mexico community,” said Nexus Brewery owner Kenneth Carson.
Beer week begins Thursday and lasts through the 31st. For more information click here.
