Former Santa Fe officer sentenced for DWI charge

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A former Santa Fe police officer will spend about a month behind bars for driving drunk.

According to the New Mexican, Jesus Bencomo-Zubiate pleaded guilty to DWI and other charges Wednesday after police say he crashed into a historic building near the Santa Fe Plaza in 2015.

His blood alcohol level was .20.

Several months before the crash, he was fired by Santa Fe police for reportedly lying about his whereabouts when he didn’t show up for work.

He’s now serving 30 days behind bars.
