Former IRS agent from New Mexico pleads guilty to identity theft charges


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico woman has admitted to committing crimes while employed as an IRS agent.

Joan Mobley, 54, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and false statement charges. Mobley was responsible for performing audits of small businesses and self-employed individuals.

She was assigned to audit a California business, but instead, she falsified records to show she completed the audit, even forging the company president’s signature.

Mobley faces up to nine years in federal prison.
