First Ever Burque Derby Comes to the Duke City

News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – On May 2, 2015 from 2-6 p.m. a new event – the Burque Derby, a Kentucky Derby Bash – is coming to Albuquerque, to benefit the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program. The event will take place on the green open space surrounding the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, which is just a short drive into the South Valley on the historic Camino Real.

Derby style entertainment will include local bluegrass band The Squash Blossom Boys, southern style BBQ, decadent deserts with the Burque Bakehouse, a beer garden, lawn games, friendly betting, and a photo booth. A huge HD video-wall will provide a great view of the pre-show and race. At the Kentucky Derby post-time of 4:24 p.m., festivities will break for guests to enjoy the “best two minutes in sports.”

Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion: prizes will be awarded to those with the best hats and overall Derby attire. All food, drinks (open bar), and activities are included in the price of general admission.

The Burque Bakehouse will be providing awesome themed deserts for the event, including mint julep macarons and chocolate bourbon mini-pies. They’ll have samples on the segment to try. The Burque Bakehouse is a new bakery owned by Sarah Ciccotello and Ali Cattin, specializing in European style pastries. Their products are available at the Downtown Grower’s Market on Saturday mornings and the Railyard Grower’s Market on Sundays.
