Fight to stop oil drilling near Chaco Canyon continues

News

The fight continues to stop oil and gas production near Chaco Canyon.

Environmental and Native American groups argue drilling and fracking will damage the countless sacred sites in the area.

Now, Congresswoman Michelle Lujan-Grisham has sent a letter to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, urging him to suspend the lease set to take effect in December.

Right now, there is a 10-mile protection zone around Chaco Canyon.

Many are asking for a cultural resource study before more leases are distributed.
