Tribal schools from around New Mexico put their design and engineering skills to the test.
Hundreds of fifth-graders competed in PNM’s “Solar Car Races” at the Explora Museum on Friday.
Fifty solar cars were built by students from seven different schools.
The top three from each school then went head to head in the finals.
“It’s just an opportunity for us to teach them a lot about understanding of the basics of solar and how solar works and renewable engercy concepts,” PNM spokesperson Cathy Newbie said.
PNM sponsors the program. They started it way back in 1994.
