ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Sunday afternoon Old Town Farm hosted a rodeo for something unusual in Albuquerque, fat bikes.

Fat bikes were originally made for people who ride in the snow. The bike tires are so big they allow riders to go over bumps and curbs with more ease than a normal bike.

Organizers say while they are popular in other parts of the country like Minnesota, they are beginning to catch on here.

“They’re catching on all over, even in Albuquerque, it’s really the new craze,” said Ross Consaul. “Even if you’re an experienced rider, they’re just a lot of fun, very different than mountain biking.”

The rodeo included a slow race and a mini cross-course.

Consaul says the Fat Bike Rodeo will become an annual event.
