ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An 8-year-old boy with a rare form of bone cancer, got quite the surprise Friday.
The boy loves ventriloquists. On Friday, a famous ventriloquist in the country paid him a special visit in the hospital.
“He’s, like, funny,” said eight-year-old, Elijah Dimas.
Elijah has been waiting for Friday night. He had plans to see his idol perform at the Route 66 Casino. But instead of making it to the show to see his favorite ventriloquist, Terry Fator, he’s at Presbyterian Hospital battling cancer.
“It’s hard to go through and stuff,” said Elijah.
Elijah was diagnosed about a year ago and has been in and out of the hospital since. But right before the show, doctors discovered new tumors.
“He has them on both legs, down his spine, in his head,” said Elijah’s Dad.
But little did Elijah know, he wouldn’t miss his favorite performer.
“This is going to be so exciting,” said Terry Fator.
After hearing Elijah’s story, Fator decided to surprise the 8-year-old himself.
“I heard you’re Elijah,” said Fator to the boy. “I heard you’re a fan.”
The visit left the little boy speechless.
“So we heard the news that you can’t come to my show, but we have better news,” said Fator. “As soon as you get to feeling better, I just talked to Dr. Jeff, we’re going to fly you and your family to Vegas. We’re going to put you up at the mirage, you’re going to come to my show, and we’re going to go to dinner with you.”
Fator even gave him his own autographed puppet, knowing the boy also performs his own ventriloquist acts at the hospital for other kids.
And instead of this being the day he missed his hero’s show, it’s now a day he’ll never forget.
“You’re an inspiration, Elijah,” said Fator.
Fator also told the boy he would make sure he got ventriloquist lessons too.
