The family of a boy who battled cancer is celebrating his 11th birthday by giving back to children in similar situations.

Elijah Dimas died in January after his cancer, Ewing’s Sarcoma, didn’t respond to treatment.

KRQE News 13 started following Elijah in 2016 when ventriloquist Terry Fator made a hospital visit because Elijah was too sick to make it to the show.

His family is hosting a toy drive Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cabezon Park to give donations to the Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico and UNMH Child Life.
