LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a night one New Mexico family will never forget. Their favorite team came out on top and they got the surprise of a lifetime.

“We’re excited. We’re overwhelmed,” said Ashley Maki, the mother of 5-year-old Kayla.

At Tuesday night’s New Mexico State men’s basketball game, the Maki family was invited down onto the court during halftime.

“We’d like to welcome our ‘fan family’ of the game,” said the announcer.

The next thing Kayla saw was some of her favorite Disney characters walking out onto the court. They were there to help reveal a big surprise.

“Maki family, you are all going to Disney World,” said the announcer.

The Aggies partnered with Make-A-Wish New Mexico to grant Kayla’s wish and send the entire family to Disney World.

“Thank you to everybody who’s had a hand in it we really from the bottom of our heart appreciate everything,” said Ashley Maki.On the court, Kayla received the royal treatment. She was given a crown and a Disney backpack for her upcoming trip.

These moments of pure joy and excitement come after years of a hard battle.

Kayla suffers from a Congenital Heart Defect. She has already undergone reconstructive heart surgery. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, her wish of going to Disney World and meeting all of the Disney princesses will come true.

“This is the chance of a lifetime for her,” said Ashley Maki.

Kayla said she’s excited to meet all of the princesses, but Ariel and Belle are her favorites.
