Emergency status lifted at NM nuclear waste repository

News

A nuclear waste repository at WIPP was evacuated after workers noticed a waste drum was misaligned.

Officials told the Carlsbad Current-Argus, no radiation was released, but the Eddy County facility stopped operations around 7:30 p.m. while emergency personnel investigated, and ensured no other drums were out of place.

The emergency status was lifted about three hours later.
