ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The man who ran a dental clinic with dirty tools out of his car, was handed down a lengthy sentence Monday.
“You are a one man health hazard,” Judge Glenn Ellington said.
State prosecutors say Eliver Kestler, the man nicknamed “El Dentista”, is a cruel predator.
“One victim complained that the defendant didn’t use any anesthesia while doing painful dental work,” a prosecutor said.
Kestler was arrested in 2013 for pretending to be a dentist, working out of his car and using dirty dental tools in a tackle box. His patients were left with serious infections and injuries
“I’ve heard from several different people today about the damage you caused,” Judge Ellington said.
The judge said Kestler preyed on people who were afraid to come forward because they were here illegally. Kestler argued he was the victim and that his patients were lying because they thought they would get a lot of money in the case.
“That he was the victim of their greed is how he described it,” Judge Ellington said.
Kestler’s argument didn’t sit well with the judge who sentenced him to six years for practicing dentistry without a license.
His wife says that’s not fair.
“I mean they could have gotten infections by themselves not just him,” Anita Ortiz said.
A victim says it was time for Kestler to pay for what he did.
Kestler has served almost two years of that sentence already. He was order to wait in jail until Monday’s sentencing after a victim said he threatened her.
