Eight people no longer have homes after a fire ripped through an apartment building Wednesday night in northeast Albuquerque.

The fire happened just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1319 Chelwood Park.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue says the heavy smoke and flames were coming from the single-story four-plex apartment.

They were able to put out the fire within minutes.

Eight people have been displaced because of the fire. One woman was taken to Presbyterian Hospital for smoke inhalation.

AFR says they also rescued two dogs and a ferret.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
