Summer is almost over and students will be back in the classroom soon. Here is some news and resources to help parents prepare for the 2018 school year.

Tax-Free Holiday Weekend List

The tax-free holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on August 3, 2018 and ends August 5, 2018 at midnight. During that time the law provides a deduction from gross receipts for retail sales of qualifying tangible personal property; in effect allowing the retailer to sell the items “tax-free.”

Back-to-School Free Immunization Clinics

The state is trying to get kids immunized before school starts by offering free shot clinics. Children must be up-to-date on their immunizations to enroll in school each year. Officials say the special clinics are part of the “Got Shots?” campaign that is aiming to encourage parents to get their kids up to date before school starts.

APS, Isotopes Host School Supply Drive

The Isotopes will be collecting school supplies during their homestand Aug. 1-5. The baseball team is partnering with Summit Electic Supply and the Albuquerque Public Schools Community Clothing Bank.

The APS Community Clothing Bank will then pick up the supplies and distribute them to students and classrooms in need during the first days of the 2018 school year.
