A state judge says New Mexico is violating the constitutional rights of at-risk students.

The ruling came on a lawsuit on behalf of students, parents and school districts.

Judge Sarah Singleton says the state hasn’t provided enough funding for public schools, leaving them in an ‘inadequate system’.

Judge Singleton ordered the governor and legislature to establish a funding system that meets constitutional requirements by next April.
