New Mexico school districts seek money for special mail-in elections

Education

Albuquerque Public Schools and other school districts are having to come up with some big money to pay for an upcoming election.

Due to a change by the legislature, school boards need to hold special mail-in elections.

During a committee meeting Monday, APS concluded that the district will need to spend a little more than $1 million for the election.

APS has already asked the state legislature to reimburse them to help cover the cost, but there are no guarantees.

Other school districts have expressed concern about coming up with the money, already asking the legislature to help with costs or make a change for future elections.
