ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Governor Martinez has announced the winner of this year’s New Mexico True Summer Reading Challenge. The program encourages elementary school students to read over the summer for a chance at winning prizes.
This year, more than a thousand students read more than 13,000 books. But Thursday, Pauline Sanchez, a sixth grader at Edgewood Middle School won an all-expenses-paid family vacation to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida.
Sanchez cried when she heard she had won. All she could say was she was excited.
There were also many smaller prizes. Another reader won a hot air balloon ride.
