EDDY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a fix for a dangerous stretch of state Highway 285 that has seen a string of deadly crashes.

The stretch of Highway 285 between Carlsbad and Texas saw two fatal crashes in a week, leaving three people dead.

Now, County Sheriff Mark Cage is answering the call. In a Facebook post, the Sheriff called the recent crashes a crisis. He says dedicating units to patrol the area won’t fix the problem but says it’s a start.

The Sheriff says his office also plans to publish ads and public service announcements and is asking anyone with suggestions to contact him.
