CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Eddy County commissioners are set to discuss how much money they can contribute to help stop a collapsing brine well.
Experts warn that a collapse of the salt well cavern on the south side of Carlsbad could swallow up homes, businesses and even a school.
Several bills were introduced at this year’s legislative session to address the issue. If passed, the bills would create a governing body to oversee and study the remediation.
According to the Current Argus, commissioners hope that if they show lawmakers they, too, are willing to put some money up, the bills will have a better chance of passing.
The commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
