Eddy County agrees to contribute funds to fix massive sinkhole

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Eddy County Commissioners will contribute $50,000 to help stop a collapsing brine well.

Experts warn that a collapse of the salt well cavern on the south side of Carlsbad could swallow up homes, businesses and even a school.

Eddy County agreed to contribute $50,000 to help with a remediation plan, if the state agrees to put up state dollars.

Several bills were introduced at this year’s legislative session to address the issue. They’re still awaiting final approval.
