Nestled in the East Mountains sits the Greenside Cafe. With 360 degree views and food that tastes like home cooking, the restaurant caters to a tight knit community and employs many locals, like a young girl named Lilly.
“Very contentious, just very sweet person,” said Mark Benson, who works at the Greenside Cafe.
Lilly, a junior at East Mountain High School, took a job at Greenside to help pay for a study abroad trip to Argentina.
“She started working here about four months ago and the first night I worked with her, my nickname for her was ‘The Blur’ because she just moves so fast and was on everything,” said Benson.
Last month, her family was struck by a devastating loss.
“Her father died unexpectedly, it was just tragic and it just seemed to come out of the blue,” he said.
Now, the money Lilly had saved and continues to earn working there, is going to helping her family.
“She’s so mature, her work ethic and everything else, just very responsible,” said Benson.
So, the Greenside Cafe family is coming together, holding a fundraiser next week for Lilly.
“To help her realize her dream. I think it’s her involvement in the community and just the person that she is. She’s very giving,” he said.
They’ll have green envelopes set aside for donations next Wednesday, May 23. All the proceeds made the day of the fundraiser will go back to Lilly.
“It’s been a dream for her to go to Argentina and be a foreign exchange student, and we’re gonna do everything we can to make that happen,” said Benson.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up by other close friends of Lilly to help her fulfill her dream.
