Durango looks to improve lighting in downtown

News

DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – The City of Durango plans to improve the lighting in parts of the city after several incidents.

According to the Durango Herald, the city is looking to add lamp posts and replaced LED bulbs in all downtown lights.

One resident started pushing for the change after he was hit by a car while crossing Main Avenue.

The city does have a Dark Skies Ordinance, which prohibits businesses in town from installing overly bright lights. That ordinance could make the changes tricky.

The mayor says he doesn’t think more lighting is the answer, but better lighting could be.
