Durango extends ordinance requiring residents to secure trash

News

DURANGO, Colo. (KRQE) – Warmer weather and roaming bears have prompted the city of Durango to extend an emergency ordinance requiring residents to secure their trash.

The city had an especially big problem with bears last year. The council enacted a $100 fine for a first offense last fall, but it was set to expire this week.

City councilors opted to extend it during a meeting last night because the problem continues, likely because of the warmer than normal weather.
