DOH increases number of medical marijuana plants producers can have

The state has approved a major increase in the number of pot plants a medical marijuana producer can have—at least temporarily.

Through Aug. 28, 2019, the cap is jumping from 450 to 2,500 plants. The Health Department says the move acknowledges the exponential growth in New Mexico’s medical marijuana program, which now has about 70,000 people enrolled.

Between now and August, the agency will work to determine what the final plant count should be going forward.
