ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – New details have been released about a truck explosion in southeast New Mexico.
The explosion happened Sunday night in Artesia. When police arrived they found Tannerite–a fuel and oxidizer combo that creates an explosive–had been in the backseat of the truck. After an investigation evidence showed a firearm had actually gone off in the truck, triggering the explosion.
Artesia police say 43-year-old Clayton McCall has been cited for negligent use of a firearm in connection with the explosion.
Police say McCall had the Tannerite for target practice.
