Deputies: Child dies after falling into Animas River

SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – San Juan County Sheriff deputies say they were searching for a 4-year-old girl after receiving reports that the child fell into the Animas River.

Deputies say the little girl was playing by the river when she slipped and fell in at about 5:07 p.m. on Monday.

San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies say the 4-year-old was spotted by a helicopter and taken to a hospital but she was later pronounced dead.

She has been identified as 4-year-old Emily Winer of Aztec.
