Between the ART project and mother nature, the annual holiday ‘Shop and Stroll’ in Nob Hill has suffered, so this year it’s getting a complete revamp.
Event organizers with the non-profit Nob Hill Main Street said last year’s one-night event brought in about 2,500 people.
“We always banked on one night, the first Thursday, and we had to put in a lot of resources, and we found that over the years we weren’t seeing that return on investment,” Nob Hill Main Street Executive Director Omega Delgado said.
This year’s shop local initiative will be called “Deck the Hill,” and will include a tree lighting, pop-up shops, themed shopping experiences, a holiday market and more.
There will be more chances to shop with the events spread out over the first three Thursdays of December.
Plus, this time they’re not closing off Central Avenue to traffic.
“We want the boost,” Ooh! Aah! Jewelry Manager Dallas Ulibarri said. “We want to see Nob Hill come back to what it used to be. Because it’s not quite there yet. We’re getting there.”
Businesses and shoppers say it’s an important move to get people to realize Central is no longer under construction because of ART.
“To see that all finished and to see this neighborhood come back to life where we can actually get to restaurants and shop in the same evening,” Terea Smith de Cherif of Albuquerque said.
