News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month and one organization is throwing a celebration in honor of it.

The Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) has touched the lives of over 20,000 New Mexicans.

This state agency administers the Guardianship Program, Federal Program Project Funding and The Center for Self Advocacy.

These programs provide for incapacitated adults who are unable to take care of themselves, provide funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for projects, and also provide a meeting place for those with disabilities to learn about their rights, advocate for themselves, make friends and have fun.

The DDPC is hosting a celebration for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

The “Side by Side” celebration day starts Monday, March 30, at 9 a.m.

Classes and presentations are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. There will be a reception at 3 p.m.
