CYFD has settled a lawsuit over childcare assistance payments.

A group of families filed suit against the department last September over denying aid to families with incomes 150% over the federal poverty line. However, the nonprofit OLE argued the eligibility cutoff is 200%.

Under the settlement, CYFD will make it easier for families to check if they qualify for childcare assistance and file an appeal if something went wrong. First Judicial District Court Judge Matthew J. Wilson signed off on the order this week.

“This agreement is a step in the right direction when it comes to increased transparency and accountability,” said CYFD Secretary Brian Blalock.
