The Children, Youth, and Families Department was investigating to see whether a Kansas boy was being abused months before he was vanished.

Five-year-old Lucas Hernandez disappeared from his home in Wichita, back in February.

His stepmother says Lucas was in his room. She showered, fell asleep, and when she woke up, she claims he was gone.

She was later arrested.

His family in New Mexico claims the boy was abused.

The Wichita Eagle reports, newly released court documents show CYFD was called last November while Lucas and his family were on a visit to Carlsbad.

Family members called CYFD after it appeared Lucas had two black eyes, but the department reported that the allegations were unfounded.
