CYFD employee arrested for soliciting sex from minor

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A Children, Youth and Families Department employee is accused of paying girls ages 12 to 14 for nude pictures.

Benjamin Anaya, 50, has worked with CYFD since 1997 in the mail room and did not have contact with children. Police said he contacted girls through Facebook instead.

“He was asking them to send pictures of their bodies and in exchange he would pay them money, and sometimes he would send pictures of himself as well unclothed,” said Lt. Andrea Dobyns of Santa Fe Police Department.

Detectives investigated this report and decided to do surveillance on Anaya and also an undercover operation. Detectives posed as a young girl.

“He actually did meet our detectives with the intention of having relations thinking it was a 14-year-old female,” said Dobyns.

Anaya was arrested and interviewed where police said he subsequently made a confession.

“He confessed to his crimes,” said Dobyns. “He said he needs help.”

Anaya is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of criminal sexual communication, two counts of solicitation by electronic device and one count of sexual exploitation of a child by prostitution.

Santa Fe Police Department is urging anyone to come forward if they may have been a victim of Mr. Anaya. Please call Sargent David Webb at 819-7216.

“Our biggest concern is finding out if there are any other victims,” said Dobyns.

CYFD officials said Anaya was also placed on immediate paid leave.
