ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A crowd rallied at Garcia’s Kitchen near Old Town Friday evening to support a former employee who is suing the company for discrimination.

Pedro Maldonado says he worked for Garcia’s Kitchen as a cook in 2014.

He claims when he told his boss he was HIV positive. He was let go and told it was too dangerous for him to be around food.

KRQE News 13 reached out to Garcia’s and the owners told us they hadn’t received the lawsuit yet, so they couldn’t comment.

But they say company policy prohibits managers from firing based on serious medical conditions.
