Santa Fe police found a wanted felon asleep in a stolen car, arrested him, and then ended up having to chase the suspect.
Robert Noedel is no stranger to police, and on July 17, this arrest and chase ended in gunfire.
“He just jumped out of my car on Baca,” said Officer Gerardo Guerrero in the video.
It all started when Officer Guerrero found 26-year-old Robert Noedel passed out behind the wheel of a stolen car.
“I was just taking a little nap,” Noedel told officers.
He claimed a friend dropped him and the stolen car off on the private property.
Officers arrested him after finding out he had a felony warrant out for his arrest. However, things took a turn when Noedel got in the cruiser.
“I’m about to throw up,” Noedel said.
“You feel like you’re going to throw up?” the officer answered.
“Yeah,” Noedel said.
The officer rolled down the window to give Noedel some air. That’s when, police say, Noedel slipped his hand out of the cuffs and through the bars on the window, escaping and running towards a Giant gas station.
Noedel ran up to a CYFD state official’s car in an attempt to steal it. The officer reached in the passenger side, preventing the carjacking.
Noedel then ran to a nearby neighborhood where he scuffled with Officer Guerrero and took his gun.
“Drop the gun, drop the gun,” an officer told Noedel.
“I’ll shoot myself,” Noedel answered.
Officers were able to get the officer’s gun back, but not before Noedel fired off a shot. There were no injuries from the gunfire.
Noedel is facing a slew of charges including car theft and escaping arrest. In 2017, he was charged with escaping a cop car twice. He remains behind bars.
