A teen accused of carjacking a group of University of New Mexico students is now facing federal charges for the crime.
Scott Gibbs, 18, was arrested earlier this month, accused of being part of a trio that approached a group of students near campus and held them up at gunpoint before fleeing in the victim’s car.
Police say Gibbs matches the description in several other crimes involving guns around the city.
According to court documents, when they questioned Gibbs he admitted to four carjackings in one night. They also found three guns with laser sights.
KRQE News 13 reached out to the U.S. Attorney’s office to find out why they have taken special interest in this case, but have not heard back.
