The trial has begun for the alleged drunk driver who police say caused a deadly crash in Santa Fe.

Investigators say Kasey Weaver collided with another driver on the Cerrillos exit near southbound I-25 back in 2017.

Her boyfriend, Kit Francis of Albuquerque, was a passenger in the car and not wearing a seat belt when he was ejected.

His family took him off life support about a week later.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports while in court Wednesday, Weaver’s attorney said she had looked down to change the radio station in her car and subsequently ran the red light.

Weaver is charged with vehicular homicide.
