Suspects connected to mail carrier’s murder to stay behind bars

The two women accused of killing an Albuquerque mail carrier will remain behind bars until trial.

Annie Rael and Alissa Bickett are charged with the murder of Bickett’s mother-in-law, Marilyn Gandert

Gandert’s burnt body was found on the mesa just west of Rio Rancho last January, days after evicting the pair.

Tuesday in court, the state filed a motion asking a judge to hold the women until trial.

The defense argued neither suspect was a flight risk, but Judge Christina Jaramillo says the evidence was enough to keep them behind bars.

“It’s concerning to the court given that they went on with their lives after that without a care in the world,” Judge Jaramillo said.

Gandert’s grandson also lived in the home.

He was questioned but is not facing charges.
