Suspect killed in deputy-involved shooting at Motel 6

Crime

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has reopened all lanes at Avenida Cesar Chavez between I-25 and University after a deadly deputy-involved shooting. Deputies and officers involved are safe.

Sheriff Manuel Gonzales says the shooting happened around 12:40 a.m. Thursday as U.S. Marshals were tracking a fugitive for days.

Sheriff Gonzales described the situation as dangerous as their investigation led them to Motel 6 where shots were fired and the suspect was killed.

Due to the complexity of this investigation Sheriff Gonzales says it’s unknown who fired the shots or how many at this time.

Sheriff Gonzales described the suspect as a very violent person and says the suspect has been on the U.S. Marshal’s radar and was wanted for armed robberies around the state.

The investigation will continue throughout the morning and into the afternoon, and authorities are asking the public to avoid the area.

Deputies have not yet released the suspect’s name.
