A months-old crime finally caught up to a New Mexico man and he ended up in even more trouble.
Detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office say back in April, Bryan Newman of Paguate was caught on surveillance cameras trying to cash a fraudulent check that was stolen from a car a month earlier.
According to online records, deputies ran into Newman at a gas station at I-25 and Isleta on Friday and arrested him on a warrant.
At the jail, officers say they found 9 grams of meth and heroin on him during a search.
In court Saturday, the State filed a motion to keep Newman locked up until trial on both the drug and fraud cases.
Court documents show this is the second time this year that Newman has been caught allegedly trying to cash a fraudulent check.
The other incident was out of McKinley County.
