The man accused of opening fire on a rookie police officer in a Walmart parking lot will stay locked up.
Police received reports of a shoplifter at the Walmart on Eubank and I-40 last Thursday.
When police confronted the man, now identified as 23-year-old Charles Purvis, they say he fired shots and took off into a nearby neighborhood.
The shots narrowly missed the officer who had just recently graduated from the academy.
Police eventually found Purvis and arrested him.
In court Wednesday, a judge ordered Purvis to remain in custody finding he’s a danger.
Purvis does have past arrests for battery, shoplifting, and burglary and theft charges.
