State Police capture Colorado robbery suspect after two-hour pursuit

MORA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) - New Mexico State Police captured an armed robbery suspect from Colorado after a two-hour long pursuit down I-25.

Officials say 30-year-old Juan Chavez of Colorado Springs was fleeing from Huerfano County deputies.

New Mexico State Police took over the pursuit when it crossed the state line.

Officers deflated the tires on the silver Chevrolet SUV he was driving, stopping the truck around Watrous on I-25.

Police say Chavez then brandished a firearm and barricaded himself inside the vehicle.

After hours of negotiation, he surrendered peacefully.

He is now behind bars at the San Miguel Detention Center.
