The state wants a dad accused of killing his 11-month-old daughter to stay in jail until his trial.

Moses Johnson faced a judge for the first time Thursday after the girl died at a motel near San Mateo and I-40 on Tuesday.

Police say Johnson originally told them the girl slipped into the pool, but he later changed his story, saying he left her unattended in the bathroom with the shower on, and she fell into the tub.

The case heads to district court to decide whether Johnson will stay locked up.
