The state has filed a motion to keep an attempted carjacker locked up until trial.
Ivan Archuleta is facing robbery charges after he tried to carjack two people at the University of New Mexico.
Police say he asked a man for his cigarette, then stabbed him and demanded his money and car keys. The man then pushed Archuleta out of the way and escaped to UNM Hosptial.
Authorities say later Archuleta jumped in a woman’s car, but she outsmarted him by locking him inside. He eventually got out of the car and was arrested. The state is asking he stay locked up as he poses a threat to the public.
